Overview


The Arab Sustainable Development Week is one of the most important initiatives by the League of Arab States in the field of sustainable development. It serves as a regional dialogue platform and is considered the largest and most significant event dedicated to addressing the various dimensions of sustainable development in the Arab region. It contributes to monitoring progress in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and promoting its integrated support.

This event gathers all relevant stakeholders from the Arab region, including government and private sector representatives, civil society organizations, and regional and international bodies.

ASDW helps build and deepen shared visions among Arab states and their partners regarding concepts, procedures, and plans to achieve the goals and targets of sustainable development. It is a vital platform for raising public awareness in the Arab region about the importance of the 2030 Agenda and the concept of sustainability. It also catalyzes on-the-ground developmental projects and drives regional leadership in addressing the SDGs and sustainable development topics.

  • Renewing Visions

    Means re-evaluating prevailing ideas and methods to reshape them in a way that aligns better with contemporary needs.

  • Anticipating the Future

    Refers to the systematic analysis of current and emerging trends to forecast potential developments and support strategic, forward-looking decisions.

Objectives

  • Evaluate existing strategies and progress toward the 2030 Agenda in the Arab region.
  • Propose innovative and locally tailored solutions in response to regional challenges.
  • Build foresight capabilities to identify opportunities and challenges through scenario planning.
  • Promote innovation as a key enabler of sustainable development in the Arab world. Enhance cooperation among public and private sectors, civil society, academia, and regional institutions.
  • Strengthen regional and international partnerships to advance SDGs. Develop a unified Arab narrative on sustainability reflecting the region’s identity and aspirations.

Rationale

The need to reassess development pathways in light of global and regional crises. The urgency to adopt anticipatory planning and embrace digital transformation and innovation.
Future readiness for the post-2030 period.
The proximity of the 2030 milestone necessitates acceleration of SDG implementation.
Alignment with major Arab foresight documents: the Arab Vision 2045 and the Charter of the Future.
The 80th anniversary of the League of Arab States is an opportunity to renew sustainability visions and strategies.
